TAMPON TAX
In UK politics the issue of the 'tampon tax' was brought up in the houses of parliament, discussing that sanitary products are still taxed 5% as a luxury item. The notion to move these products to be tax-free under clarification of essential items was rejected.
This was born of a reaction to tampons and sanitary towels being taxed under the same category of the likes of perfumes, cosmetics and other actual luxury items.
Then, George Osborne used the excuse of EU laws to justify the taxation, citing that the money made from the tax will go towards women's charities as a ploy to soften the blow of women being taxed for keeping hygienic during a natural bodily function.
Since this set was photographed, EU ruling has moved sanitary products from being taxed under luxury items.
